Have you been inspired by the Talking Threads exhibition?

Every Sunday afternoon from 13.00 to 16.00 you can try your hand at needlework at our Talking Threads exhibition. First, take a free Sunday guided tour of the collection items. A museum docent will provide the materials to get you started on some embroidery techniques and stitches. If you would prefer to give it a go at home, simply download the embroidery instruction cards below.

Six items from our collection, made by people around the world, will help you learn to appreciate embroidery more. You will learn to recognise the stitches they have used, and how they made the motif. You will also learn how to do double running stitch and chain stitch, and discover what couching is. Or discover Sashiko, embroidery from Japan, or Mexican Otomi embroidery.
