February 17 marks the start of the Chinese New Year, heralding the Year of the Horse. In the Chinese zodiac, the horse is an animal that loves to travel and is always curious. It doesn't give up easily, is brave, and dares to try difficult things. Make an adventurous start to your spring break and learn more about Chinese New Year and get creative yourself. There is also plenty to do in the hands-on exhibition Superstraat. See the full program below.

Workshop: At full gallop

In Superstraat, you can make a lantern that seems to show a horse galloping! In the Chinese zodiac, the horse is an animal that loves to travel and is always curious. It doesn't give up easily, is brave, and dares to try difficult things. First, decorate your lantern with gold, then make the horse really move. Workshop

Workshop: Pen & ink studio

Step into the world of lines, rhythm, and expression. Calligraphy is a special way of writing and drawing that has existed for a long time, for example in China, Japan, and other parts of the world. The artworks from the museum's collection will help you find inspiration and get started yourself. In this studio, children and their parents/guardians will discover how much fun working with pen and ink can be.

During the workshop, you will play with black and white, thick and thin lines, shapes, and patterns. You don't have to do anything perfectly: it's all about trying, discovering, and having fun. By moving calmly, looking closely, and sitting still for a moment, you will notice how nice it is to work with attention. With short, fun assignments, you can let your mind rest for a moment and follow what your hands want to do. Together, we will create several works of art. At the end of the workshop, everyone will take home one work of art in the form of a booklet. Curiosity and attention are the most important things—everyone can participate!

What will you take home?

  • One work of art made with pen and ink, which you will take home as a booklet.
  • Lots of inspiration—and maybe some ink on your fingers
