Museum Night 010

Experience the power of Art She Crafted

During Museum Night, the Wereldmuseum opens its doors for an evening dedicated to Art She CrafteD. A tribute to women who have shaped art, culture, and craftsmanship from ancient times to the present. This night shines a light on their stories, professions, and creative power.

Wander through the museum and discover something to experience on every floor: from performances and music to encounters and surprising perspectives. Let yourself be carried away by a night where hidden stories come to life.

Join the Stitch&Bitch and discover how craft, conversation, and togetherness come together in a shared making experience, while Nadia van Luijk and Londen Loy explore the hibiscus as a guide to its spiritual power, rituals, and meanings across time and cultures.

Art She Crafted shows that creation can also be an act of knowledge, care, and resistance together with Striptopia, Kult Funktion, Marlou Fernanda, Rosetta Beats and more!

Museumnacht

STRIPTOPIA: Labour That Leaves Traces

For Museumnacht, STRIPTOPIA presents a temporary installation in which photography, storytelling and live performance come together. At its heart are sex workers and performers - storytellers in their own right - who retain full agency over how they are seen, heard and represented.

The installation features photographic portraits created in collaboration with Bart Hess.

“Labour That Leaves Traces” explores sex work as a form of embodied labour, labour whose physical, emotional and social impact accumulates over time. Each portrait is paired with the personal story of the woman depicted, ensuring that image and voice are always experienced side by side.

During the evening, the space is activated through a live performance moment in which the women themselves perform - as an expression of authorship, professional skill and bodily autonomy.

Throughout Museumnacht, STRIPTOPIA also offers historical context on sex work and guides visitors through the installation. The aim is to hold space for the performers and their stories in a respectful, accessible and attentive way.

The STRIPTOPIA app will be present on site, allowing visitors to tip the performers directly and support their work.

Stitch&Bitch with Sadie Girigorie

This ongoing workshop focusses on an overlooked phenomenon: the knitting club. Not everyone knows that this is a fertile place for knowledge exchange. Gossip, secrets, stitching advice, or plans for a revolution are freely discussed. During this session we take a dive into the history of women’s contribution to needle work and textile art through short lectures held every hour while we stitch.

You are welcome to bring your own project or start one with the materials provided. For all experience levels, absolute beginners are also encouraged to join.

As we sit around the table together we discuss topics like the role of women in (textile)art and technology, fast fashion, and the art vs craft dichotomy. This way we collectively contribute to the huge textile network of information, stitch by stitch!
Sadie Girigorie is a textile artist and graphic designer based in Rotterdam. Her practice consists of interactive embroidery and experimental looms through which she researches the human relation to craft, technology and ornamentation.

Makers Salon

During Museumnacht, the Wereldmuseum opens the Makers Salon: a space where craftsmanship and entrepreneurship come together. In the spirit of Art She Crafted, we invite makers who feel connected to, or inspired by, the creative power of women throughout history.

Discover unique works, artisanal practices, and the personal stories behind the making process. In the Makers Salon, you’ll meet makers who weave tradition and innovation together and show how making can also be an act of knowledge, care, and independence. A place to wander, connect, and celebrate what is created with intention and vision.

A Time to Imagine by Marlou Fernanda

"A Time to Imagine" is a guided masterclass by artist Marlou Fernanda, in which participants reflect on their inner experience of time through color and movement. In the heart of the exhibition "A Time For Everything," participants work in four short rounds, each connected to a season. With simple materials, clear rules, and noise-cancelling headsets, a moment of concentration and imagination arises amid the vibrancy of Museum Night.

Halima Ikane draws inspiration from her studies in psychology and pedagogy to combine science and art into stories. She seeks the intersection between her emotional world and her analytical side. Over the past year, she has participated in special projects, including a theatrical lecture with a neurobiologist during the Brainwash Festival and a collection about mental and physical disabilities with Spraakuhloos called Spraakuhloos Onbeperkt.

Amara van der Elst learned at a young age to keep a low profile. On stage, she rises above herself. Spoken word helped Amara discover, feel, and deal with her emotions more deeply. She learned to be vulnerable on stage, to share this with others, and to draw strength and energy from it. It is the place where her words find rhythm. In 2021, Amara impressed the whole of the Netherlands with her recitation during the National Remembrance Day on May 4. In 2022, she won the title ‘Talent of the Year’ from the Dutch Education Innovation Fund, set up her own spoken word writers' camp Rhyme & Reason, and starred on Spraakuhloos' spoken word music album ‘Binnenste Buiten’ (Inside Out).

Amara writes and speaks to pass on the lessons she learns every day. For her, it is a moment of sharing, opening up to the people who listen, showing vulnerability, and being open to reciprocity. Amara was too big to keep small. She takes up space in a way that feels right, connects unexpected energies, and sees similarities rather than differences.

With an unimaginable passion for telling personal stories, a fiery power for breaking down social taboos, and openly sharing vulnerability, Amara is unavoidable in all her being.

In connection with the exhibition Art She Crafted, rosetta. amplifies and represents the female and non-binary voice in music production, grounded in an inclusive vision of music-making.

During Museumnacht, rosetta. presents an hourly performance by artist-producers from the rosetta. network that rosetta. believes you need to see, including Nina Le Tron and Noa Naomi. In between, you can take your own first steps as a producer! Come create your own beats using DATO’s instruments, immerse yourself in a game that takes you into the world of music production, chill (and dance) to the tunes of DJ and producer TOYA, ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask about the behind-the-scenes world of the music industry, and take your first step as a producer in the Wereldmuseum’s atelier.

Everyone can become a visionary producer—and everyone is welcome!

Nina Le Tron
With her dark electro-pop and alternative productions, Nina creates a platform for heavy, pressing themes. Always with a touch of self-mockery, she writes about the fears that overwhelm her and takes us along on her search to find herself again. She does this in Dutch and English, but also in French—the language she grew up with. Through her music, she shares her emotions and offers comfort to her listeners.

Noa Naomi
Noa Naomi is a singer, dancer, and songwriter from Amsterdam. Her sound is a blend of R&B, Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop, Pop, and Afrobeats. With silky-smooth vocals, expressive lyrics, and dynamic choreography, she invites you into her own world.

Yael Daila
Yael Daila blends pop, R&B, and afropop into hypnotic tracks that sound like whispers in the dark. Her dreamy vocals float over trap beats as she explores the complexity of love and self-discovery—sometimes playful, sometimes raw. Music has always been a guiding thread in her life, but it wasn’t until health challenges during her teenage years that she found her own voice, and songwriting became a way to capture her feelings without a filter.
