Hedy Tjin and Henna Goudzand Nahar wrote the book Op de rug van Bigi Kayman to help adults discuss slavery with kids. They link the well-known Surinamese song Bigi Kayman, which lots of kids learn at primary school, with the history of the Brooskampers, a group of Maroons in Suriname. They fled the plantations before 1740 and built a new life in Kaaimangrasi. The Wereldmuseum and the makers of the book invite adults to use it to discuss slavery, resilience and freedom with kids in a special space. They are also prompted to consider what history they will be passing on.
