77 years after the beginning of occupation and oppression in Palestine, a growing number of voices are rising — within the Netherlands, religious institutions, and Jewish communities worldwide — calling for reflection, solidarity with Palestinians, and resistance. These emerging voices express a deep longing: to make space for pain and memory, as well as for ethics and connection — beyond physical borders. But how do we do that? And what does it take?
As part of the Imagine Peace series, we invite you to a moment of reflection on the meaning of place — Makom — in Jewish thought and life. During this gathering, we will look at our own identities and explore what it means to be positioned amidst the polarizing forces of political systems, religion, and inhumanity.
Makom refers both to a physical location and to one of the names of God. It confronts us with fundamental choices. Do we choose rules and rituals that attempt to justify claims to land? Or do we choose the Makom that is everywhere — a moral compass that places life, justice, and humanity at the center?
This Imagine Peace gathering explores the current moral and identity crisis, and the transformations taking place within Jewish communities and Dutch society at large.
