Stories from the Community

Meet Moluccan Creators

The Moluccan community in the Netherlands is vast and diverse. Each generation shapes its identity in its own way. In this video series, you’ll meet four individuals, each with their own story, yet connected to one another. Watch the videos below.

A look back at the event

Rafaël Pattiwael

Together with Yordi Tahamata and Mayella Lourens, Rafaël Pattiwael founded Molukkers aan de Maas. Through exhibitions, concerts, and events, they strengthen the community, raise awareness, and work on sustainable development—both within and beyond the Moluccan community.

Rio Lekatompessy

Rio Lekatompessy is a psychodynamic therapist, presenter, and founder and host of the podcast Molukse Takkie. With Molukse Takkie, Rio and her guests give voice to the contemporary Moluccan story.

Fâris van de Lisdonk

Fâris van de Lisdonk is an illustrator and third-generation Moluccan. Through his business Bahaya, he visualizes the transport ships that brought Moluccans to the Netherlands.

Lois Hilt

Lois Hilt is a singer and all-round performer. She has a mixed heritage: fourth-generation Moluccan, and also partly Indonesian and Antillean. At our previous event, Lois performed the show Om wij te zijn (“To Be Us”) together with a collective of Moluccan creators.
