Chinese New Year Festival in the City

Chinese New Year Festival in the City (Westkruiskade and Deliplein, Katendrecht)

Festive family activities in the city!

In China, the colour red symbolises good luck. People create festive decorations themselves, often featuring symbols of fortune. You won’t believe your luck when you step into the special tram on Kruisplein, filled with fun celebratory activities: print a horse using unique Chinese stamps on rice paper, or make a lantern with a galloping horse! Artist Lili Zhou and the Wereldmuseum team will be ready in the tram with a variety of creative activities.

Block Printing with Traditional Chinese Stamps

Chinese New Year is also called the Spring Festival. Many wishes revolve around growth, blossoming, new opportunities and fresh beginnings — just like spring. You can block print with good-luck symbols that match Chinese New Year and the arrival of spring. Using special Chinese stamps, you can print a horse onto traditional Chinese rice paper.

Chinese Lantern: “Full Gallop”

Create a lantern in which a horse appears to gallop! In the Chinese zodiac, the horse is an animal that loves adventure and is naturally curious. It rarely gives up, is brave, and dares to take on challenges. First, decorate your lantern with gold; then, bring the horse truly into motion. In this way, you bring the Year of the Horse to life — heading into a year full of adventure, perseverance and new opportunities, galloping toward a beautiful new beginning.
