Hair. It intrigues people endlessly. It compels us as a part of our identity, and as an extraordinary material.
The hair on our heads that grows faster than other body hair, perhaps preoccupies people the most. Time after time, we try new hairstyles or we choose to keep the same style. If our hair falls out, it can affect us deeply.
Our hair - whether we show, cover, or remove it - often reflects our personalities, the social groups, and cultures we feel part of. Consciously or unconsciously, we communicate about our identity with our hair. We also respond to expectations from media and society.
People value hair as a material because it holds genetic information, it is strong, and it does not decompose. We can, and might, keep hair for years. Therefore, we use it in spiritual objects and everyday design. Still, there are places where we absolutely do not want to see hair.
Hair leaves an impression. Hair is powerful.
